MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez was sent back to Detroit from Minnesota on Wednesday due to recurring symptoms from a viral infection that has forced him to miss five games.
Ordonez had missed several games at the end of spring training, but played in the season opener. He left Detroit's game on April 6 after four innings with dizziness before missing the next four in row. Ordonez came back to play against the Twins Tuesday night and went 0-for-4.
"He felt fine after the game yesterday, but this morning he called and said he was sick," Tigers president Dave Dombrowski said.
"He woke up and he was sore so we decided to send him back to Detroit for some more tests," manager Alan Trammell said. "His stomach hurt and we just want to make sure we take care of it."
No idea how much more time he will miss if any.
