So I've never done an autopick draft before, so I decided to try it just for fun. 12 team yahoo 6x5 H2H league (i guess OPS is the extra category). Spent like an hour or two fiddling with my predraft rankings. The draft just went through, and I can scarcely believe my good fortune! Tell me what you think. I know I have no bullpen (really, the worst ever), and Giambi is a very sketchy 1B, but still...I think with a couple of trades, this team should easily win it all. Am I wrong? Some feedback, please! Suggestions for who I should trade would be particularly helpful.
C- Ivan Rodriguez
1B- Jason Giambi
2B- Brian Roberts
3B- Eric Chavez
SS- Derek Jeter
OF- Vlad Guerrero
OF- Hideki Matsui
OF- Andruw Jones
Util- Troy Glaus
BN-Reggie Sanders
BN-Khalil Greene
BN- Eric Byrnes
Update: I put Borowski on the DL and signed Kevin Millwood. There don't seem to be any closers on the waiver wire at all--not even obscure, crappy ones. So I guess I'll have to rely on trades.
Also, I can sign either Carlos Pena, Nick Johnson, Tino Martinez, Scott Hatteburg, Raul Ibanez, J.T. Snow, Ryan Klesko, John Mabry, Jeff Conine, Shea Hillebrand, Darin Erstad, or Matt Stairs off waivers to back up Giambi. Any recommendations? I'm thinking Erstad.
Wow!!!! I've never played H2H but from my understanding you just have to outscore your opponent in the categories. so a 6-4 =8-2.
Soooo you could forget Sv depending on how your roster.
Once Glaus does well trade him along with one of your bench guys for either a 1B or a good hitter with 2 positions like CJones, Dunn or the like. I'd dump Greene if there's a good U guy. Maybe Barmes, Bartlett. With your hitting lineup bench won't get a sniff at playing time.
Like Hawkins and Mulder alot. You could definitely trade your FLA boys once value gets high for CL.
AJones, Chavez, Mulder are in for career years since they're 27, if you believe it.
Are MGonzalez, Brazoban available? Think you might need some RP to keep your ratio down.
great point. i guess i could just tank on saves, eh? unless the right trade comes along. i was thinking about picking up rincon for ERA and WHIP. he's available on waivers. any other opinions?
nice tip on barmes too. looks like a pretty good sleeper pick, especially playing in colorado.
for a auto pick draft, this is a very solid team, I did one about 3 years ago and it sucked, drafted me like 3 DL guys...... I like ur offense with the exception of Giambi of course..... ur SP is very good, but I would look for another closer as you stated....... not bad at all man........
I traded Andruw Jones, Kevin Millwood, and Dontrelle Willis for Carlos Delgado, Danny Graves, and Akinori Otsuka.
So my new (and improved, hopefully?) team:
C- I. Rodriguez
1B- C. Delgado
2B- B. Roberts
SS- D. Jeter
3B- E. Chavez
OF- V. Guerrero
OF- H. Matsui
OF- R. Sanders
Util- T. Glaus
BN- J. Giambi
BN- K. Greene
BN- D. Erstad
SP- K. Wood
SP- J. Beckett
RP- D. Graves
RP- L. Hawkins
P- A. Burnett
P- M. Mulder
P- Z. Greinke
BN- A. Pettitte
BN- A. Otsuka
DL- J. Borowski
I also have a waiver request for J. Rincon (dropping Greene). If that goes through, I can drop Otsuka and pick up someone like Barmes. And I can drop Erstad and pick up a backup outfielder. I know my closers are still weak, but even if I lose saves, I should (theoretically) have a good chance of sweeping all the other pitching categories each week.
Am I crazy, or is this one seriously sick team? Not to pat myself on the back too much.
wow, that trade really bolstered your bullpen without giving up much!
Offensively you are loaded! Graves was awesome last year as far as saves, but he did have trouble keeping people off the bags. Beckett can be erratic but hopefully those blisters on his finger don't reappear in 2005.
I'd stand pat at this point and assess your team in a month!
