Short update on Vazquez

It was perfectly acceptable grammar, though it would be easier on the eyes (and ears) if he'd said, "He didn't just lack a curve." That's the intended message.

But, the point is the Cubby clearly said that Vazquez was tipping his pitches, which means it's something he can fix fairly easily.

Don't be so tough on people.

Actually, no.

It should be "He just didn't have any curve"

No it isn't. It's "not only did he not have any curve," so therefore what was said was fine.

A Cubs player told me "Javier Vazquez didn’t just have no curve, he might as well have put what was coming on the Jumbotron." That’s actually good news since it’s correctable

Actually, this is how I see it...

CAPS mean emphasis, [square brackets] are assumed words that are left out.

So:

"Javy didn't JUST have no curve today, he [was also tipping his pitches so we knew what was coming]."

So in essense, he had no curve today, but not JUST that alone was not the problem, as he was also tipping his pitches.

I love this. I post what should be great news for Vazquez owners, and it turns into a discussion about the grammar in the quote.

I don't see how this is "great news" for Vazquez owners, but the poor grammar by the cubs player is very amusing.

I would guess this is Aramis, since his grip of English is not so great. :-b

The quote is fine, not a double negative. How did so many posts about grammar get written in here anyway :-S

I have Vaz in one league and I hope he doesn't not find his curve, as well as stops not never tipping his pitches.

Grammatically correct or not, it's a mental tongue-twister, and I think the anonymous player should fire his editor. :-b
