Shawn Green: Bust or Breakout?

I'll be honest - I think at the end of the year, Shawn Green will be a top-25 player. I've been saying it all offseason (well, ever since I got him in my cafe league) and I hope to be able to gloat in a few months.

opening day for him was a decent start!

He wasn't just a stud in Toronto, he had some great years in LA also!
2001: 121 Runs, 49 Homers, 125 RBI's, 20 SB's
2002: 110 Runs, 42 Homers, 114 RBI's, 8 SB's

So don't bank on Arizona alone to boost his stats because the Ballpark wasn't the problem. With that said thuogh, I do see him getting back to 110 Runs, 35 Homers, 110 RBI's and even 8 SB's, not because he's in a new park, maybe he is refreshed with a change in general. In 200, his first year in LA he was a bit disappointing, I hope he doesn't have to adjust like that again.

2000 In LA : 98 Runs, 24 Homers, 99 RBI, and 24 SB's

Breakout?? Green was a monster up until shoulder injuries in 2003 and offseason shoulder surgery sapped his power in 2004. His power started to reappear in the second half last year (18 HR). I expect now that he's healed we'll continue to see some pop. Plus, he has traditionally played very well at the BOB. My line is something like 290-35-100-95-5. Upside is 300-40-115. I'd much rather see him bat 4th instead of 5th (as he was hitting yesterday).

Considering he's not being picked until after the 10th round in most leagues, I don't think you can call him a "bust"...but I do not, in any way, expect him to "breakout". Moving teams does not magically make you good, unless you're headed to the Rockies or White Sox.

I agree with everything you said. Just check out his second half stats in 2004.
