Expansion Team in 14 team league, New fantasy Player

Postby keiban » Mon Apr 04, 2005 12:52 pm

I joined an established league this year. FIrst time doing any Fantasy Baseball outside of HR pools with my dad and brother years ago. League had 10 last season, one team dropped, and 5 of us joined up. Each veteran team kept 6 players, 5 round expansion draft, and then the real draft. This is what I ended up with.

14 Man H2H Keeper league, (6 keepers)
Stat Categories
Batting R,H,HR,RBI,SB,K,AVG
Pitching W,CG,SV,K,HLD,ERA,WHIP

Roster
C -J. Varitek Red Sox
1b -C. Delgado Marlins
2b -M. Loretta Padres
3b -T. Wiggington Pirates
SS -J. Wilson Pirates
LF -R. Hidalgo Rangers
CF -J. Damon RedSox
RF -I. Suzuki Mariners
Util-T. Hafner Indians

SP -C. Pavano NYY
SP -C. Carpenter St.L
SP -R. Lopez Orioles
RP -J. Mesa Pirates
RP -J. Rincon Twins
P -J. Thomson Braves
P -A. Eaton Padres
P -M. Standton NYY

I think it's a decent team. Not champion material, but for an expansion I think I did rather well. Where can I improve? (Saves, I know, oh boy do I know....) Any thoughts or opinions welcomed.
Thanks all

for an expansion team in a 14 team league i really like your batters. however your pitching blows...it's really pretty terrible...have you considered trying to trade for some closers and starting a lot of low era/low whip middle relievers? I think this could work in your h2h format since you'd have a pretty good chance at taking saves, holds, era, and whip in a given week...just a thought.

Any and all of the "name" starters were protected by their owners. I think the 9 veterean teams kept on average 2-3 SP each. :/ So their wasn't much to begin with.

But I actually don't think I'm that bad off. I really believe all my starters are 15 win potential, ERA will be 3.80-ish, competetive. I will get beat in K's for sure, and probably saves since Mesa is my only true closer. :/ Holds I'll actually win a lot in. 6 of the 14 teams punted holds outright, and those that didn't only took about 1 solid Middle reliever each. I do want to make one big trade in the first few weeks though. Even if it's to set up for next season. :/
