Is it just the honeymoon welcome back thing that made him seem so potent on opening day? Or is he really worth a grab? He's on the waiver wire right now in my league.

He's not the old Tino but if he gets regular playing time he can hit 25 homers and knock in 80 with that short right-field porch.
Just my two-cents.

"old Tino" is exactly my hesitation. Every time he dives I get scared.

I suppose being back where he is comfortable with the Yanks Tino could see a slight boost in his numbers, but unless you are in a deep league I doubt he is worth a pickup.

I could see 270 25/80 in the Yanks lineup. That is not fantasy worthy on 10 or 12 team mixed leagues for a 1b, but it will be quite satisfactory for the real world Yanks and our hopes to win a title.

His lowest season with under 400 ab's and 20hrs at least was 1994.
Every season in his career it took him 450++AB's to get 20 HR's

A plan? More like an outline. Tino will play 1b and Giambi DH most of the time early on I should think with Sierra getting some time when Giambi plays first or when Bernie is rested. However, what is going to happen if Tino gets off to a slow start is anyone's guess. Hopefully Tino does OK at the plate as I think he will. But if he goes into one of his funks early, who knows what is going to happen as I do not know how long the leash is.
The more Torre plays GIambi in the field the riskier it is too. I would not let the man near leather more than once a week, but that is me.
