We showed this movie last night for our youth group at church and this was actually my second time seeing it. Religious tone aside, this is definitely one of the best overall movies I've ever seen. I did come away with a few questions maybe someone could clear up for me though Throughout the movie there is a freaky looking woman in the background following Jesus who I presume to be the "devil". However, when it cuts to her during the seen where Jesus is being flogged she has some sort of deformed baby in her arms and it is stroking her face. What the crap is that all about? Also, while Jesus is taking the cross up to Golgotha there is a woman who runs up and has him put his bloddy face into a white sheet. I was thinking this represented the finding of the "shroud of Jesus" or whatever that's called. I was hoping though, that's not what it was. I had a few more questions that I can't remember right now. Maybe someone else will bring them up for me

A great deal of the movie is not based on the Bible which is one reason it drew so much controversy during release. For some of the basic changes read the Wiki entry on the film. It addresses the deformed baby issue in there as well.

The Catholic church does not consider the "scriptural"...they state that believers can choose to accept them as "scriptural" or not....it is not a requirement that they accept them...

I think the point of the movie is not in the details but in the graphic depiction of the suffering of Jesus the Christ. Personally I didn't want to go see it because I knew it would be very difficult to watch....and it was. That being said I'm glad I went as it did effect my faith, as well it has many others.

The thing you're thinking about is the Shroud of Turin which is supposedly a cloak or cloth that covered Jesus while he was in the tomb between death and resurrection. What we see in the movie is Saint Veronica wiping his face with a cloth, which is also depicted in the Stations of the Cross.

Its not ment to be the best movie, it was sopossed to be a spirtualy moving movie. I never saw it but I'm wishing I did.
