i just sort of "happened" upon it this evening. i havent given it a listen yet as i am enamored with this band called acceptance. quite possibly one of the best cd's ive heard in a very long time. anyways if i can tear myself away ill try to give the beck a listen and let you know how it is.

While I'm a firm believer that no Beck CD is the same, I guess if you had to compare it to a previous album Odelay would be the best fit. It was produced by the Dust Brothers just like Odelay was. You can still hear hints of Sea Change in some of the melodies. But this album doesn't put you to sleep or make you depressed like Sea Change does. I think right now my two favorite songs on the album are Black Tambourine and Scarecrow, but they're all pretty good.
Props on mentioning Soulmanure. I love that CD. Did you mention it merely for reference or do you like it too?
love it. the sweet randomness is undescribable. big fan off the off-beat mellow gold songs as well (ie. soul-suckin jerk and truck-drivin' neighbors downstairs.) yeah i'm weird.
