I have noticed that in a few of my leagues, owners are picking up this guy. I was just curious as to why?
Is there something I don't know.
A) Colorado is not using him in the closer role.
B) His velocity is still way down. 84-85M MPH.
C) His breaking pitches are not breaking. Not that they would in the thin air of Colorado anyways.
D) He has shown nothing in his comeback attempt, and Boston just basically unloaded him for next to nothing.
E) In case you missed it the first four times ...
He pitches in Colorado ..
why are people picking him up?
I am sooo confused.
"Kim will likely have a chance to take over as a closer in Colorado's hurting bullpen. The favorite to close this season, Chin-hui Tsao, has rotator cuff tendinitis and has not impressed manager Clint Hurdle this spring training. Left-hander Brian Fuentes, who was also in the mix, also has struggled."
Although the Rox site has him starting, at least, in MR.

Latest News Mar. 30, 2005 - 8:53 pm et Even with Chin-Hui Tsao likely to spend the first week or two of the season on the disabled list, Kim figures to be used in middle relief initially. If his stuff comes back, then he'll slide into the closer's role and do a fine job. As is, he's more likely to get pounded on a regular basis.

i hadnt heard that yet
Rockies placed RHP Chin Hui Tsao on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 25, with right shoulder inflammation. Tsao can return as soon as April 9, but the Rockies would be wise to be extra careful with him. While he's out, Brian Fuentes is probably the favorite for saves, even though he's had an awful spring. Scott Dohmann and Ryan Speier are also candidates to pitch the ninth. Byung-Hyun Kim will have to show something before he's trusted with any late leads. Mar. 31 - 6:35 pm et
i think people are expecting him to be the closer but who knows. he has to show that he is effective first. [/quote]
They don't have any plans to use him as a closer yet as far as I've read but I think people are expecting him to get a shot at some point.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
