Buck has the C spot sealed up for my Royals and should be fairly solid this year as long as he can hit .265+ I doubt Closser can get enough AB's to be effective this year, last I looked he is having a pretty crappy spring and probably will be platooned with someone during the season.
I think Clossser will be the better players but as of now, I think Buck will get more done. I have Closser, but am going to pick up Buck instead and keep an eye on Closser.
Buck played more of the season last year so I know a little more what I am going to get.
He isn't capable of hitting for a high average but he has tremendous pop.
Buck could hit
25 HR
80 RBI
75 Runs
260 avg
making him a very valuable catcher b/c very few can hit 25HR. He is also very capable of being this years Victor Martinez and busting out with 30homers and a 275 avg.
Closser is a nice hitter, but he has very little pop in his bat and has showed little power in his career thus far.
Don't get inamered with the fact he hits in Coors, in order to hit homers (even in coors) u need power, and Closser has very little, he is more of a hit for avg guy.
I love the idea of Closser, a switch-hitting catcher playing at Coors, but the spring results have been mixed at best. Last I heard, he was going to be platooning, so I'd have to suggest Buck......
