He's my early choice for NL rookie of the year. Last year, he hit a homer every 11 at-bats - and threw in 19 doubles for good measure, too. This year, he's starting in right field for the Rockies.

Am I being unreasonable to expect an average in the .280-.290 range and 20-25 homers?

I don't think it's crazy to predict that...but...keep in mind that last year he played in the Minors, for Colorado Springs, so don't get too excited about the "move" to Colorado. I don't see him being able to repeat his stats from last year, as he should struggle in his adjustment to the Majors.

No, I wasn't excited about a move to Denver - Col. Springs is essentially the same, with worse pitching. I know that.

But he did hi t .322 with a .384 OBP and 31 homers in just 345 at-bats last year. If he plays a full season, let's say, and he slows down the home run pace to 1 every 20, he still gets 20-25 homers.

I'm not suggesting him for a 12 man mixed, but I've grabbed him in my 18 team league and am happy with him as a back-up OF.

Yeah, I'll agree with you here. In deeper leagues he is definitely an option. I drafted him in a deep 14 teamer, only to drop him about a week later...so I'd say he's borderline valuable in a 14 teamer. Anything about 14 teams and he should be owned definitely IMO.

Are you sure Hawpe's starting?

What about Mohr? They seem to like his defense better.

My guess is they will platoon.

That's what they're doing I think...Mohr vs lefties and Hawpe vs righties....meaning Hawpe will get the large majority of ABs.

I think Hawpe will find playing time. Preston Wilson could very well go down with an injury again -- or be traded. Mohr had that bicep injury that made the Giants non-tender him.

I expect Wily Mo Pena to play a full season. In the same way, I expect Hawpe to play a full season.

He'll definitely be on my sleeper target list at the end of the NL only draft. I also like Taveras and Hairston for speed (especially since i can move him to the MI spot).

I agree with Wily Mo..(he's already taken in our league)...I just hope it's not at the expense of my boy Kearns.

I think those are reasonable projections for Hawpe.
