BJ Ryan officially named Orioles closer

Postby Bobby Baseball » Wed Mar 30, 2005 11:33 pm

News: Manager Lee Mazzilli confirmed on Wednesday that B.J. Ryan will be the team's closer to start the season. Unless Ryan is absolutely horrendous in the first month of the season, it appears Julio will only be useful in larger AL-only leagues for help in the ERA and WHIP categories unless he is dealt to another team in need of a closer.

I agree, but as a Ryan owner, I was sweating this out. The Orioles official site still has Julio pencilled in as the closer.

It could be another ugly year for closers. Last year we had Rhodes and Chacon and Hermanson and Herges and Affeldt and Speier/Frasor and Borowski and Putz, etc. It would be hard to top that though.
