i just nabbed him. he quietly had a decent season last year (.269/20/59, 81 walks, but 160k) and is young... since the expos are a good team this season, i'm giving him a chance. the expos seem to have talent (guerrero, vidro, vazquez, cabrera, armas jr, wilkerson, ohka, etc) just not much depth. i wonder if orlando hernandez will come back and be good. if he's a 3.5ish era pitcher, this could really help the team out. vlad hasn't even gone on a tear yet. he looked good when i saw him play in chicago, but then went quiet... hopefully last night's walkoff HR was the start of something good.
as the weather heats up, so does vlad. if vazquez pitches like he has early on, if armas jr comes back... if players like endy chavez and brad wilkerson show continued improvement, maybe even jeff liefer can hit 20-25 hr, with a decent el duque? hmm. i'd love to see the expos in the playoffs this year. it'd make my season.
so with wilkerson, i'm giving him a shot in two leagues. why not? he's got 5 HR and 22, now 24, rbi already... if the expos stay a winning baseball team, i think he'll be motivated to play well. and when vlad gets hot, his rbi ops should be quite numerous... esp if vlad gets on track to ~30-40 SB form. so if you need the help, he's worth a go, i think.
