Nivar's 25 years old and has put up numbers of:
.302 with 16 home runs and 30 steals in 868 at bats between AA and AAA. Not great, but not exactly worthless either. Say a leadoff hitter with 10-15 home runs, 30+ steals and a .290 average or so in a year or two. That's not too terrible. He'd be even better if he learned to take a walk. At 25, he's got quite a bit left to learn. Shame we gave up on him so easily, and for so little in return though.
Bottomline, Yes, I do believe we could have done better than Riley for him.
