Mar 29 The Detroit Free Press' John Lowe reports Detroit Tigers 2B Omar Infante will be the team's leadoff man. -- KFFL

Probably expected but does his value rise much now that he's got the spot (for now)?

Tigers chances after thsi news: 0%

He's probably their worst hitter and he's batting leadoff. Wow. This is what you get for hiring an old-school manager. I'm sure Trammell knows what he's doing in many areas of the game but this is a horrible decision.

Guillen, Young, Monroe, Maggs, Rondell, I-Rod. Take your pick. Just because Infante is a MI with some speed doesn't mean he should be the leadoff hitter.

I'm not saying they SHOULD be leadoff but they're better options than Infante.

This isnt new news to me - he was tagged the leadoff hitter when they dropped Sanchez.

Obviously Im biased, but from reading scouting reports on Infante and watching him play these last 2 years, I fully believe he will bring his OBP up as he continues to mature and get more confident at the plate.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again - Infante will be an All Star in the not so distant future. Maybe not this yr, but his defense already places him among the leaders in the AL and as long as he continues to get better and more patient at the plate there is no reason to think he cant develop into a solid leadoff hitter. I do agree with LBJ somewhat in that I dont think he is ready now though.

As for fantasy, I cant see how this would not increase his value. More ABs = more opportunities to get the counting stats.
