This is my roster. Holds are scored as a seperate category and feel that I really need to pick up a middle reliever. Seems as though I should really drop a starter, but I really like all of them and hope that Brad Penny can make it back. Do you think I should dump Hidalgo and for which one of the following:
L. Ayala, D. Marte, R. King or T. Jones?
Thanks for you help!! I will help you best as I can.
C: Jason Varitek
1B: Carlos Delgado
2B: Marcus Giles
3B: Eric Chavez
SS: Michael Young
OF: Vladimir Guerrero
OF: Vernon Wells
OF: JD Drew
Util: Lance Berkman
Bench: Bagwell, Lawton and Hidalgo
SP: Curt Schilling
SP: Roy Oswalt
RP: Billy Wagner
RP: LaTroy Hawkins
P: Matt Clement
P: Livan Hernandez
P: Bartolo Colon
Bench: DTrain Willis, Brandon Webb, Brad Penny
All of those middle relievers are pretty good, but I would probably leave Todd Jones at the end of the list. I think Ray King will get the most holds, but Marte and Ayala will probably pitch more innings, with more impact on your ratios and chances at vulture wins.
You have a ton of starters, and any of them will probably get snatched up when you drop them. I share your hopes for Penny, but at this point he is probably the least attractive of the starters you have.
You might want to keep your three bench position players, since Berkman will not start the year in the lineup, and Drew is susceptible to injury.
It is a head to head league. If there is anything else I need to tell you, please let me know. Maybe having 8 SP will win me IP and W every week, so I am better off with that than a middle reliever?
I've never played head to head, but it seems you are right that the starters will help you win two categories, while the middle reliever will only help with one. Yes, quality middle relievers can help with ratio categories, but the number of innings they pitch in a week may not have much impact.
I'd drop Hidalgo and Bagwell. There have to be better guys than them on the waiver wire.
I never smile if I can help it.... Showing one's teeth is a submission signal in primates. When someone smiles at me, all I see is a chimpanzee begging for its life.
Maybe just me, but I think the move to Tex will do wonders for him. If you need to drop someone, how about Webb......better yet THROW him out. Awful skill set. You won't even miss him. Agree that King is the bet for Holds, but anything will be an improvement and by dropping Webb you will be better by subtraction.
hold on to penny. deal clement. I know an agent and he told me matt is a million dollar arm and a ten cent head who everyone expects to implode in boston.
