I've heard this in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and now 2005. He might do it one day but he has killed many fantasy baseball fans in the past who were waiting for it.
I know people talk about him hitting in Texas as a huge advantage. It probably is but remember he hit in the Houston lineup at Enron/ Minute Maid without returning to 2000 form. Why is he likely to do it now.
Mench hit 26 bombs last year in about 80% of at bats of a full season. He is only 27 and is really on the way up. It won't be long into the season before he hits in the spot slated for Hidalgo.

Don't get me wrong I'm not counting on much of anything from Hidalgo, and certainly not a return to 2000 form. MM Park is much better for him than Ameriquest will be. But the fact is that he HAS been that good so if it's going to be a bench player you might consider Hidalgo. I wouldn't, but I can see why some people would.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
I love Mench...but I think this is a no brainer, Hidalgo by far. Hidalgo has looked great in ST and he will definitely have a spot in the OF all year. Mench will miss at least a game or two every week because they are playing Matthews or Dellucci.
Hidalgo. He's been freakishly inconsistent in the past, for sure, but when he gets his stuff together he is a monster. I think this is a year he puts it together again. If nothing else, he's now hitting in one of the best hitters parks in the majors and 5th in a stacked line-up. I could hit 250-10-30 hitting 5th for the Rangers. Certainly, he's killing the ball this spring, for whatever that's worth.
I am the Master. Don't question the Master. Just do what he says and be proud.
