Probably Hidalgo. If Mench could hit 27 with Texas last year and Hidalgo's hit 40+ with Houston in a similar lineup to Texas', I think he has a shot at repeating.
I'd lean toward Mench myself. However my reasoning is that Hidalgo has been consistently disappointing since his 40HR season with Houston. For some reason, everyone keeps remembering that season and disregards his disapppointments since. Personally, Hidalgo needs to prove himself again. Mench is on the rise.
I love Richard Hidalgo this year. I've been taking him as a #3 OF in many leagues...risky? Sure. But I'm pretty confident it'll pay off. Protection+lineup=good recipe. He's streaky as hell, though, so if he gets on a bad streak, you might be better off benching him till he snaps out of it. I think he just wasn't comfortable all throughout last season.

Hidalgo...Mench is OK, but I think Hidalgo has a chance to put up better numbers. When it's a late round flier we're talking about, I'll go with the guy who might put up great numbers (.300, 35, 100) over the guy who will probably put up decent numbers (.280, 30, 90).
Mench. Hidalgo won't hit for a good BA, Mench will. Other than that they're about equal. If it's for a reserve spot, or if he's going to be your 5th OF, then taking a chance on Hidalgo returning to 2000 form isn't a bad idea. But most likely Mench will have a better year.
