Kissimmee, FL (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros traded pitcher Tim Redding to the San Diego Padres Monday in exchange for catcher Humberto Quintero.
Redding, 27, went 5-7 with a 5.72 earned run average for the Astros last season. The club had avoided arbitration with the righthander by signing him to a one-year contract worth $750,000 on February 7.
In four major league seasons with Houston, Redding was 21-28 with a 4.75 ERA in 91 games (72 starts).
The 25-year-old Quintero batted .250 with two homers and 10 RBI in 23 games for the Padres last season, his second in the majors.
San Diego also received cash considerations in the deal.
