Is anyone gambling on this guy. His numbers were fantastic for his "rookie" year. But, it was only in 88 IP. Can he continue to grow from last year? I think he could be a real sleeper this year. Anyone agree? Is he worth a pick-up, ESPECIALLY if you have an empty roster slot?

I've got him on my bench. I wouldn't exactly call that a gamble, but I think that's the most you should be gambling on him at this point (unless you're in a deep AL only league).

ive got him the vkff and im hoping he will do decently. im expecting average to decent stats that i can use for a spot start here and there against average teams. he should get some wins just from his offense alone though.

To me, 2nd year pitchers are a gamble...you never know how they will perform in year two. I've been burned a couple of times with 2nd year pitchers (Brandon Webb & Jerome Williams) so I am a little gun shy.
In your position (with the empty roster spot) I would say it is a good risk.

I grabbed him off the wire in one of my leagues, why not? There is that sophmore jinx to worry about, but a few guys in past years have shed that stigma. His ERA might go up a bit because hitters start to understand how he pitches, but if he can adjust he could be a great low cost - high profit type of guy, more than likely he'll be a decent addition to the backend of most fantasy rotations.
Another guy I like in this same catagory is Danny Haren in Oakland, he should be about the same thing, if not have a better chance to do well.

He's a great late round gamble. Great pitchers park and fast outfield. I've heard quite a few Mariners fans that have personally seen him pitch say he could turn out to be the Mariners best starter this season that is breaking camp with the club (so to exclude the eventual callup of you know who). You could do far worse than Madritsch, who has a little bit of upside.
