What does everyone think of him for this year? last year, everyone was high on him, and he was penciled in as the pirate's ace for the year. well, that didn't exactly work out, which brings us to this year.
i'm pretty high on him, and i've been able to get him quite late in most of my drafts. he seems to be going over-looked. i mean, has he really become that bad of a pitcher since last year? i think he'll be a fine #3-4 guy on most teams and put up numbers similar to bonderman, pavano, escobar, and zito.
what do you guys think?

Well, he definitely is being overlooked. I completely forgot about him this year. I am not exactly sure on the numbers, but I can't see how he would be that bad of a last spot SP guy on your team.
I wouldn't go as far to say he would be a #3 SP...maybe a #4 if he gets everything straight. He has the ability to be like Ben Sheets, but I don't know if he'll have a WHIP or K amount even close to as good as Sheets. Had the Pirates just scored 4-5 runs a game, he would have easily won 16 games two years ago. I think he had some ungodly amount of ND's...like 13 or 14 that year.
As far as the actual question, I don't think he's being drafted in many leagues at all unless they are deep or have very knowledgable players. I took him in the 27th round of a 12 team league that uses 9 P's. I hope he can get back to 2003 form.

I took him as a 6th starter, but I'll keep him on the bench till he proves hes better than El Duque. From what I have been reading, it looks like hes been light up bright than a christmas tree this spring.

I don't think he's been awful. Just glancing through the stats he's been the best Pirate starter other than Duke (who they already sent down) and Perez.
It's Redman who has been getting destroyed. He gave up 6 ER today against Boston in 4 innings, taking his ERA up to about 8.5 (if I added that correctly - 17 ER in 18 innings).
I wasn't sold on Redman when we traded away Kendall for him, and this doesn't make me feel any better about him.

actually, i did, and it's basically what prompted me to start a thread on this guy. most of the other "sleeper" pitchers i've been drafting have at least been on people's radars (wolfe, millwood, benson, etc.), but no onne seems to expect much from kip this year, and i just wonder why.
i've got him down for
200 IP
15 W
3.50 ERA
1.25 WHIP
160 K
which puts him in the top 50 SPs easily. 'course, this is assuming he's healthy, etc.
