"According to the Toronto Sun, Alex Rios could lose his starting job in right field to Gabe Gross and his roster spot after Ted Lilly comes off the disabled list on April 10."
Gross is having a marvelous spring and all, but I can't imagine him supplanting Rios... Am i missing something here?
Knowing about the Jays is one of my hobbies..I heard about this too. I know Gabe is having an amazing ST but that should not mean that they send down a player with the talent like Rios has. He was awesome when he came in as a call-up, and is only getting better. I think if Jays management did this, they would be making a mistake.
I agre with the aforementioned posts. Sure, Gabe is having a great spring, but that doesn't always translate into a good regular season. Keep Rios out there and let him develop, it would be a shame to keep someone with his talent on the bench.

Contrary to these posts, and in a solely fantasy mindset, I love it. I kept Gross for $1 as a rookie, and for that, getting some pop early on would be very welcomed. I'm def. not drafting as him being my starting OF, but it would be nice to get him some PT so I can decide about him next year.
But yes, Rios has way more talent, and Riccardi would be stupid to do this.
Sending Rios down is pretty much senseless, and I can't see this taking place, regardless of what the Toronto Sun may report. I can see Gross getting an opportunity to play some, but expect the AB's to come more at the expense of Johnson or Catalanotto. Also, we could see him DH'ing when Hillenbrand takes 3B on days when the constantly nicked up Koskie cannot go. Plus, there's always the possibility that Hinske won't hit, will lose the 1B gig to Hillenbrand, which would put Gross into the DH slot.
In other words, plenty of possibilities, but I think least among them is Rios losing his job.
The fact of the matter is it just came from the newspaper, which isn't a reliable source. Writers always throw things out there for the public, just to give them things to read about. It never came from a coach, so for me it's a bogus report that has no credit to it at all. Gabe Gross could replace Rios, like I could win the lottery ... there just isn't a slightly good chance at all of it happening.
Everything I've read on Rios since he has been called up has been positive, so it really makes no sense. Gabe Gross has hit in ST, Rios hit in the majors for over 400 AB's ... pretty simple answer to who starts IMO.
Sounds like B.J. Upton all over again.
Talented kid, one of the top prospects in the game.
Nothing left to prove against minor league pitching.
Team that stands absolutely no chance at making a run at the post-season.
Sure, why wouldn't they send him down instead of letting him develop in the bigs? Ridiculous.
Rookie right fielder Gross is coming down to earth. After hitting everything in sight in the opening three weeks, Gross has gone hitless in his past three games (0-for-7) and in his past seven games he has gone just 2-for-15. Overall, though, he's hitting .359 (14-for-39).
