Fantasy Baseball Name

Postby Brokentusks9 » Sat Dec 14, 2002 8:51 am

I need help picking a new kickie-fast fantasy baseball name. ;-D

Of the three other fantasy sports I've played for while, I've got THE names. (You know when you actually decide on something.. it's like "oh yeah, that definitely the one")

In basketball I use "Bullets" in remembrance of the Washington Bullets.

In hockey I use "Worcester" as in the city of the St Louis Blues minor league affiliate the Worcester Ice Cats. (Do you bleed blue?)

And in football I use "Plantation"...for no reason, it's just the strangest name I could come up with and everyone seems to like it.

So I stole/borrowed my football name for baseball last year because I was hopeless in finding a name. But this year I NEED a baseball name.
Throw me some ideas! I need serious help.
(give me anything! your names, nifty names you've seen in leagues past...whatever! i need ideas)

Just to get the ball rolling: one traditional way of naming roto teams is to use a pun on your last name. If you're John Strong, for instance, you might choose Strong Arms (hopefully with a solid pitching staff :-) ), Dave Winfield could use The Winfield Flies, and so on. The worse the pun, the better... according to folks who like this sort of thing, that is. ;-)

I tend to use cities in my team name. For example, my fantasy basketball team name is the "Roswell Rayguns" out of my love for the funky Nike Commercials (although I don't live anywhere near Roswell). But adding your something like your hometown before the team name defintely adds coolness points.

Sometimes the best names are simple like: Trees
Sometimes the best names are ficticious like: The Easter Squirrel
Sometimes the best names a movie quote like: This Guy Here Is Dead
Sometimes the best names are something that strikes fear like: Your Mom
Sometimes the best names are fake like: The Jim Campbell Clinic
(I bleed blue).

My last name is Koss and after finishing in last place in 2001 (I was an expansion team for a 14 team, 5x5, NL-only, keeper league) I decided to call myself the Koss-tastrophes for 2002. So, I agree with using a pun of your last name. In case you're wondering, I finished 7th in 2002.

Personally, as a big Simpson's fan, I am quite partial to the name: "Homer's Springfield Isotopes", in honor of Homer's team featuring now ex-pros Boggs, Canseco, etc. ;-D
