Actually, this brings up a good point. It seems one of the big reasons none of MLB's leadership made a stand on steroids is that they thought fans were coming back in droves to watch the long ball and MLB didn't want to put the brakes on more homeruns. Personally, I think smaller parks, harder baseballs, lower pitcher's mounds, aluminum bats are all better alternatives than turning a blind eye to drug users.

They are building smaller parks because "chicks dig the log ball". I believe true baseball fans are here in the cafe debating these issues. The new baseball fan is interested in the excitement of the homerun. Owners know this, hence the smaller parks and blind eye.
What's the deal with Bond's supporters crying racism? Some of the Bond's bashers in this and similar forums post in other forums singing the praises of A-Rod, Vlad, Beltran, Pedro, Ramirez, and so on. You do know that typical racists would hate all blacks and minorities, right?

Which makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER,
No, I disagree. McLiar was a fragile player who wouldn't have put up anything near good enough numbers to even make an HOF ballot. The steroids helped him not only to be more energized and powerful, but to stay healthy.
With Barry, the man had a HOF career before he succumbed to the lure of the roids. 300 HRs, 300 SB, 3 MVPs while he was a stick figure for the Pirates. There is no question that were he not to have use steroids Bonds was still a HOF caliber player and one who if would have been healthy would have been considered amongst the best ever. He was a superman, roids made him super-human.
The real issue here is if Barry Bonds were not about to break Hank Aaron's homerun record, steroids wouldn't even be a topic worthy of discussion. Steroids were not just detected last year. However, Barry's trainer just happened to be one of the guys involved in a steroid scandal last year.
Without Balco, Jose Canseco's book isn't on the best seller list
Why isn't anyone discussing Marion Jones?

Maybe because no one cares about Track?
Circumstances don't change anything. The spotlight should be on Bonds and the rest of baseball and it is.
Actually the spotlight should be on steroids, not individuals. The popular names that are constantly mentioned in the news are not the only people using steroids.
MLB and all other sports, including bodybuilding and track should plain and simply have a flat ban on all steroids. Cheat, your out, no options. Let's not wait until it suits the media, the congress or the water cooler.

What about us black people who think Barry is a lying jerk, deuce? Are we racists that hate ourselves? Trying to claim that the animosity towards Barry is racist is asinine. In case you have missed it, it is a black man's record he is going to break. Why would racists care if a black man broke another black man's record? Barry is disliked because he is a pompous jerk, a cheater, a liar, an adulterer and just generally a sorry excuse for a human being. He blames everybody but himself for the things he has done. The media and racists did not force him to go have an affair. They did not force him to "unknowingly" use steroids, and his credibility on that issue is about as good as David Duke's on how good a man Dr. King was. Bonds made his own bed, and he doesn't want to lie in it. Barry has made conscious choices his entire life, and his sycophants want to ignore that and just blame everything on somebody else. A man owns up to his responsibilities and actions, he doesn't try to lay them off on somebody else. Bonds is a complete loser, and his race has nothing to do with that fact. He and his apologists want it to shield him, by claiming the criticsm is based in racism. It ain't. And it is an insult to those who faced real racism and rose above it.
I took a look at Jedimintric's posting of Bonds' stats. They reveal something interesting. Bonds' HR's and Slugging Pct. went up as soon as he moved to San Francisco. They should have gone down with the move to Candlestick. My guess is that he started using some steroids the moment he got there.
