What are some players that are significantly more valuable in Points leagues than in Roto? I'm looking for fielders more than pitchers.
The obviously valuable players are valuable everywhere. I'm trying to win my draft, and I think that can be done in rounds 5-8 if I go after the right players that have more value in points, than roto. What do ya think?
R (1), H (1), 2B (1), 3B (2), HR (3), RBI (1), SB (3), CS (-1), BB (1), K (-1),
IP (3), W (10), L (-5), CG (10), SHO (5), SV (4), H (-1), ER (-1), BB (-1), K (1), HLD (3)
HR are big - 6 points in total when you add it all up. I'm just wondering if they are the best thing to go for? Saves are big, but we've reduced their value this year, and increased holds.
The best way to find out who is the best players for a points league is to apply those points to last years #'s or better yet rank and project your own numbers for this year and apply those numbers to your projections and just look at the totals. Easy!!
Look for power hitters that do not strike out so much and get walks. A guy like Dunn would actually hurt you because of how many times he strikes out. Also, it looks like SB guys are pretty valuable. A great pick would be Nomar for SS, because he's a great hitter and should bounce back this year - I took him in the third round but he might even go later...
An unanswered question is better than an unquestioned answer
SB's are high in your league, Ichiro, Crawford, Pierre will be very valuable, probably more valuable than many power hitters. Some guys that will have higher value (due to K/BB ratios) than you would see in a 5X5 league are:
Brian Giles
Bonds
Chipper Jones
Johnny Damon
Luis Gonzalez
Players whose value is decreased compared to a 5X5 league:
Andruw Jones
Jim Edmonds
Jason Bay
Mark Teixeira
Jose Guillen
Richie Sexson
workhorse pitchers seem the way to go. 3 points per inning is huge. livan gets a huge boost with that and 10 points for cg's. that seems to be the biggest thing to me.
3 players that I would label as must have for the league
Crawford- big steals and triples
Ichiro- decent steals, lots of hits and runs
Livan- huge on innings and CG's
C- Victor Martinez or a great sleeper is Jason Kendall because he simply plays more than most catchers. Avoid: Jason Veritek
1B- Sean Casey Avoid: Jim Thome
2B- Loretta and Giles will be gods in your league Avoid: Soriano
SS- wait on a middle tier guy like rollins Avoid: Jeter, not because of his stats, but he will prob be taken a few rds too high.
3B- Mora Avoid: Glaus
OF- Ichiro, Crawford, pierre, a huge sleeper for your league would be Dave Roberts he will prob be over 3 ppg in your league and you can get him like rd 15. Avoid: god there are so many, names that come to mind are dunn, sosa, bay...
