5 innings pitched giving up his first earned run of spring training. he's still heading to the minors but everyone should keep a side-note for this kid, because with the sox weak back of the rotation he could be up before the all-star break.

Rotoworld says he is starting in the #5 spot due to injury to Buerhle. vr, Xei
Brandon McCarthy will open the season as Chicago's fifth starter because of the injury to Mark Buehrle.
Buerhle is expected to miss all of April. It's quite a jump for McCarthy, who only threw four starts at Double-A last season. His 202/30 K/BB ratio at three levels last season was very impressive, but his 2005 upside remains relatively low because of his home park and the temporary nature of his starting gig.

wow...makes sense for the sox, we really have no other options. kind of scary allowing a kid to skip triple A though.
