Need to drop one of these guys. Which is the worst?

Am leaning towards dropping Affeldt. Al are somewhat injury prone, Wickman and Borowski both play on better teams meaning for save opportunities. Aquino seems to have a lot of potential.

What is the general consensus?

I like Affeldt the most, i wouldn't cut him. Wickman next. Borowski seems the easy cut, as he's in a 3 man race to close.

i still think wickman has some gas left in the tank...and the indians will win enough so he'll have a good number of SV. affeldt isn't a bad option either...but joe and aquino... :-o

I wouldn't scoff off Aquino. I read a scouting report on him in BA's Prospect Handbook and he has good stuff. He's only pitched since 1999, previously being a SS. Thus, he's had to seriously adjust. I suspect he was always a SS before that (in amateur ball). To summarize, his command is an issue, but his mid-80s slider has improved to being a superb out pitch and he has a great fastball in the mid-90s. He can reach triple digits at times, but is better when he works on command.

That being said.......Valverde is probably better, though he's getting lit up. Bruney was always seen as the closer of the future in AZ, though he's been queerly bad.

How many times must it be said? Whether or not a team is good has ZERO bearing on the amount of saves a closer might get. In the words of Will Ferrel - "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!" <img src=/forums/images/smiles/kiss.gif>

In any case:

Borowski

Affeldt
Wickman

Aquino
