Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians placed right fielder Jody Gerut on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, as continues to recover from reconstructive knee surgery performed last September.
Gerut suffered a torn ACL in a September 17 contest against the Kansas City Royals when his right knee seemed to buckle as he chased a ball down the right field line off the bat of Abraham Nunez.
The 27-year-old Gerut hit .252 with 11 homers and 51 RBI in 134 games last season, a drop off from his production of 2003 when he belted 22 homers with 75 RBI.
Cleveland also announced Sunday that it has optioned pitchers Fernando Cabrera, Francisco Cruceta and Kyle Denney to Triple-A Buffalo and re- assigned catcher Ryan Garko, outfielder Ernie Young and pitchers Kenny Rayborn Jake Robbins to minor league camp.
