Is my season over already? Help!

Postby AI8818 » Sun Mar 20, 2005 1:23 pm

I was looking at my squad this morning and I noticed that my team really isn't that good. I would like to know what the cafe thinks I should do with the team. Who am I looking to move and who am I looking to get? Thanks in advance.

2B Jose Vidro
SS Michael Young
3B Aramis Ramirez
OF Corey Patterson
OF Jason Bay
OF Torii Hunter

First your batting:
LoDuca - OK pick; dump him after the ASB
Sexson - Medium Injury Risk/High Reward
Vidro - Med to high injury risk
Young - very nice; a top 5 SS
Ramirez - again, great pick; top 5 3B
CP - decent pick; depends on where he bats in the order
Bay - could be good; the sophmore jinx is very real in baseball
Hunter - solid; 20/20 very likely
Mench - I would look for a more solid option
Sanders - OK, should have good RBI opps hitting sixth

Next your pitching:
Prior - well you know by now
Pedro - good luck getting more than 160 innings from him
Halladay - good pitcher, could be a real sleeper
Burnett - nice pick, will be a stud this year
Perez - hopefully gets back to pre-2004 numbers
Wolf - could go either way.....good or horrible
Sabathia - should be solid
Wickman - will make your life interesting
Benitez - should be great again in a pitcher's park
Linebrink - great numbers without the saves
Jo Bo - sketchy......but worth a gamble
Bautista - more value as a closer

I think you should be looking for a big power bat for your outfield and another solid closer like Takatsu, Izzy, Foulke.

I disagree with hooligan. You've got four closers, although three of them are on thin ice. I think Borowski is the most likely of those three to hang onto the job. You might consider packaging Wickman and Batista for a closer upgrade (try for Mike Adams, maybe?), but right now you've got enough saves.

I like your pitching, even if Prior craps out again. I'd be careful starting him until we know he's healthy.

Your OF is deep, but you don't really have a #1 guy. Patterson or Bay could creep into that realm. Hunter is a good guy to have if you are looking to balance out a power hitting team, but you might need more power then he'll provide. I do like Mench, and would keep him.

I think you need some offense. Didn't Sanders just get injured? I'm not sure how serious it is, but that probably isn't the last time someone on your squad will get hurt. Consider dropping Wolf for another bat, or trading Wolf + Hunter for an offensive upgrade.

Comments on my squad?

IMO, your overall offense is lacking, though I would be most worried about Runs and Steals. Perhaps you could package Vidro and one of your lesser closers for B.Roberts and a closer upgrade. Some upgrade at outfield also seems necessary.

I like your starting staff though.

I like you r IF, Sexson will comeback very strong. I think your SP's could range from good to sensational as a group. Pedro will got 20-6 OR 12-9. Prior will be great w/o injuries, but..... Upgrade at Closer and OF

I think if your pitchers can stay healthy (Prior, Pedro, AJ) they are your strength. Your offense, while solid, looks to lack Power and speed. I would probably look to deal a SP for a Power bat. Then try to pick up SB's off the FA list. Dave Roberts or someone similar along with a power hitter would really shore up your offense.

if you get a chance...
