Why not make Yates NYM #5 Starter???

Postby Havok1517 » Sun Mar 20, 2005 2:29 am

Why don't the Mets just use Tyler Yates as their 5 starter. They keep saying how good he is and I've been hearing about this guy for awhile now, lets see him. I think for the first month of the season the #5 starter only gets like 3 starts. Why go out and get a sucky player like Ishi. I mean wasn't he demoted to the minors last year??? Granted Phillips was a bust last year, but he still could be a impact player for the Mets and their pitching staff.

Rotation...
Pedro Martinez
Kris Benson
Tom Glavine
Victor Zambrano
Tyler Yates

I don't think that looks that bad, do you?

Tyler Yates underwent surgery yesterday to repair a torn rotator cuff and is expected to miss the season.

The Mets will likely keep Yates on their 60-day disabled list all season long. Since he has no options remaining, the plan will probably be to non-tender him and re-sign him to a minor league deal next winter.

Damn, didn't know about that. Thanks so0perspam. They can still do a lot better than Ishi though.

Ishii will come cheap and they only need him for a couple of months. As much as I hate Ishii from a fantasy perspective I think the deal would make sense. The Mets just need someone to step in for Trachsel until he's back.

Yates' tear was serious enough that his career is potentially over. :,-(

It's unfortunate that Aaron Heilman has not stepped up because this would be a perfect opportunity for him to get his chance.

Just like last year was the perfect oppurtunity to get his chance? ;-)

Tough about Yates, this could have been his year. And I don't like the Ishii move, they already have an Ishii. His name is Victor Zambrano.

I guess. It would have been nice if last year's experience got him over the hump. I'm in no way promoting Heilman. I think it's safe to call him a bust. It's just a shame.
