Keeper League, just drafted, how did I do?

Postby sportsjerk » Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:15 pm

I'm in a 1st year 12 team keeper league. It's head-to-head scoring, 6x6 (5x5 with OBP and holds). Let me know how I did. by the way, we keep 6 each year. I had planned on putting Lane in the OF until Berkman is healthy and then put either Reed or Giambi in Util. Also, I plan on replacing Iguchi with Burke once Burke gets eligibility.

Here's my roster:

C Joe Mauer
1B Travis Hafner
2B Tadahito Iguchi
3B Eric Chávez
SS Rafael Furcal
OF Vladimir Guerrero
OF Aaron Rowand
OF Lance Berkman
Util Lew Ford
Util Jason Lane
BN Jason Giambi
BN Jeremy Reed
BN Chris Burke
SP Ben Sheets
SP Mike Mussina
SP Jeremy Bonderman
RP Joe Nathan
RP Greg Aquino
P Mark Buehrle
P Tom Gordon
BN Brad Penny
BN Cliff Lee
BN Jesse Crain

Also, would it be a good move yo offer Mauer and Penny or Buehrle for Martinez?

good job, i like your team. its very solid all-around, with a nice mix of good now guys and good later guys. i don't see any devestating weaknesses, u might want to pick up another closer, or at least one better than aquino. and also don't discount iguchi that quickly, at the very least he's good for some speed, which is one area your team might lack in. once again nice job overall, you should do well. ;-D

you were awesome and read mine, so ill share my probably useless opinion. You're team is pretty good, but you probably could use a little more speed overall, furcal is a legit threat for 30 SB, and ford can get you 15-20 but i think you should try and aquire somebody with a little more. Nathan should be strong, but like half massed said, maybe trying to aquire another closer in case aquino doesn't pan out for the d-backs. Soild team overall though.

It is OK. Vlad, Chavez, Furcal, and Berkman (when healthy) are your big guns on offense.

I am not happy with the rest of the bats, however. Mauer looks to be injury prone and unproven. Hafner was solid last year, but only has one good year under his belt. Iguchi is unproven in the majors. Lane is having a good spring, but he is a risk. Rowand and Ford are good players, but I think they really only have one good year under their belts as well. Giambi could bounce back, Reed could be bad or good, and Burke is up in the air. Overall, it doesn't excite me.

Sheets is a solid #1 starter, but I hate that he plays in MIL and won't get a lot of wins. Mussina will get a lot of wins, but his ERA was terrible last year. Bonderman could break out, but he plays for the Tigers, which hurts. I like Buehrle as your #4 starter. And Penny could be huge if healthy. Nathan and Aquino are decent as a closer combo.

Overall, I say middle of the road, with Vlad/Chavez/Berkman/Sheets as your main keepers. I say get a better closer over Aquino. And, maybe a better 1B in case if Hafner falters. If Hafner, Rowand, and Ford do better this year, it could put you towards the top of the standings.

Curious... when did you draft Berkman?

I like your team. You're going to have to be on the ball and do some management of it over the season, as you've got a number of guys who could go either way. But that's okay, that's part of the fun of it all. Just be careful not to get too attached to any one player.

Your biggest weakness is saves. I'm not a big Aquino fan. Be sure to pay good attention to the closer watch in the Baseball leftovers forum. If you can grab some closers off of waivers over the season that will be a big help.

I like your outfield plan. Berkman will be a very nice plug-in when he comes back. Between Rowand (who I'm not big on), Lane, Reed and Ford you'll find a good 3rd OF. Reed might end up being the best choice if he's getting SB in Seattle. He's certainly one to keep an eye on in a keeper league.

I'm surprised Sheets fell to the 4th round. Overall, it's a pretty decent team, but catcher could be problematic. Right now, so many people are high on Mauer, have you thought of shopping him around?

For who, and then who would I get for catcher? What if I packaged Penny or Buehrle and Mauer for Martinez?
