LMAO. I have bad memories of Lyon's bosox experience. the year boston's entire bullpen melted down...

His #'s on Boston in 2003
4-6 49 Games 9 Saves 59.0 IP 92/59 = whip, 50 K's, 4.12 ERA

Not too good, but that was when he was 23 and now hes 25.

I'm not sure why people think Valverde is a bad pitcher. He's just really injury prone, but his stuff is top-notch. You don't post a 2.15 ERA and a 13 K/9 ratio over nearly 60 Innings (his 2003 #'s) if you don't have talent.

Anyway, Lyon is a sleeper that's staying in bed this year. Yawn.

Am I missing something here? Valverde is hurt, has looked worse than horrible, and I believe is ticketed for the DL sooner than later. Aquino probably opens as the closer, but Lyon has an excellent chance of unseating him in short order, especially in view of his sharp efforts this spring.

Looks like my prediction of being a good "Sleeper" late round value/$1 pick is holding true.. ;-D

Thanks for all the support ;-7

Just read this:
Latest News Apr. 1, 2005 - 8:03 am et

Manager Bob Melvin hinted yesterday that he may go with Brandon Lyon as Arizona's closer, rather than Greg Aquino.
''He's probably the guy I'd look at the most and I think everyone would understand that with the spring he's had,'' Melvin said. Lyon has given up just one run in 12 innings this spring, and he has two saves. Even if Aquino starts the year with the job, Lyon being in the picture is worth a buck on draft day.

Time to bring this back once again :-D and toot my own horn. Since many are quick to criticize, but few ever give any credit around here :-?

I was the first to bring this up as a possibility, and no one seemed to give me a hint of respect..

Well look at me now B-) B-) B-)

Brandon Lyon - R - Diamondbacks

Brandon Lyon, who allowed one run in 13 innings this spring, will open the season as Arizona's closer.
Lyon does have some closing experience with Boston in 2003 and has thrown very well this spring, but he probably won't be all that great this year, leaving open the possibility that Greg Aquino or Jose Valverde could overtake him at some point. In the meantime, expect him to have quite a bit of value. Apr. 3 - 7:07 pm et
