This is pretty much your standard Yahoo Roto league, with a couple very minor variations. 13 teams instead of 12. Hitting slots: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, Util. Pitching slots: SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P.
I was just curious to know people's opinions on my team. Personally, I'm fairly happy with it, but I think I might have not quite enough stolen bases, and I think I might have too many high-risk strikeout pitchers (Beckett, Dotel, Ryan). What do you think?
It's a private league, so I can't show the draft results, but here's my team:
C - A. Pierzynski
1B - B. Wilkerson
2B - R. Durham
3B - A. Huff
SS - D. Jeter
LF - C. Lee
CF - G. Anderson
RF - V. Guerrero
Util - P. Wilson
Bench - L. Berkman
Bench - R. Hidalgo
Bench - K. Mench
SP - J. Schmidt
SP - T. Hudson
SP - J. Beckett
SP - J. Thomson
RP - O. Dotel
RP - B. Ryan
P - J. Borowski
Bench - B. Penny
Bench - J. Williams
Bench - T. Armas
Bench - L. Ayala
Having 4 mandatory SP slots and 13 teams makes the SP thin, so I think you did a great job with your top 3. Dotel and Ryan will be fine and Borowski may make your pitching dominant. I like the most of your hitters, but you are correct about your SBs. Durham is past his SB days. Find a better 2B; there are many out there that steal 15-20 bases.
i'm new, so i dont know if my ideas mean anything, but i agree that durham is a bit of a risk. I followed the giants last year and it seemed as if he was injured very often. While he does have alright power for a 2B, his SBs are on the decline. racmurphy is right, there are other 2B who have higher SB (B Roberts maybe?). I doubt that helped at all, but i figured i might as well try.
D'Angelo Jimenez and Aaron Miles went undrafted, so maybe I'll pick one of them up (more likely Jimenez). The thing is, I like Durham because he gets a lot of runs hitting at the top of the Giants order. I also read a little yahoo blurb saying that he strengthened his legs so he could steal more this year...although, you can only take those for what they're worth (which probably isn't very much).
I think I'm pretty well covered for strikeouts, which is why I think I might try to trade Ryan - who I think will do well, but he's fairly unproven and risky - for a less risky closer, perhaps along with some SB's. Do you think this makes sense?
I think 1B and 2B are your weaknesses. Wilkerson's in a weak lineup and won't hit for much average. With a good deal of OFs on your roster, I feel that you should move one for a better 1B. I'd personally prefer a Sweeney or Morneau if attainable.
Durham is gimpy. He's lost speed, but he'll score runs. I don't know if a major upgrade is possible, but perhaps you can grab a couple of sleepers like Clint Barmes and Mike Cuddyer and see if they pan out.
Pitchers 1-3 are very strong. I love Beckett this year. As for the 4 spot, it'd help you tremendously if Penny came back strong or J-Will broke out. Thomson's pretty mediocre.
Overall, solid. I'd work on upgrading 1B and #4 SP first.

Is Giambi avaliable? In my local private league, I took him in the 16th round and probably could have picked him last as no one wanted him. He's certainly worth the risk IMO if you can still get him in case Wilkerson doesn't pan out.
Another option for 2B is Chase Utley. He's going to get more ABs this year and should continue to improve.
With 13 teams, my guess is your pitching is probably the best of the lot.
