I am new to Roto, what should I do with IP limit?

Stat Cats: W, CG, SV, HR, K, ERA, WHIP, K/9
Pitching Spots: SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P

1250 IP limit.

What should I expect to do with these configurations? Do I take MR or closers with my "P" spots or get more SP. K/9 makes me want to get some top closers.

Pitchers are ahead of hitters in the spring. I carry 6 starters and spot start them until the All-star break. Then I trade a young starter for some SBs. Young starters usually fade in August.

the K/9 cat goes seem that youd want more MR and Cl type people, thats interesting, Ive not played with that stat before. As to dealing with inning limits -- divide it out, you have 3 must have starting p spots and 8 total -- thats

1250/8 = 156.25 innings per pitcher

but 3 HAVE to be starters, with the top starters typically getting you much more than that (just calculated it, top 30Ps averaged 210innings a piece, with L Hernandez being the high at 255)

and 2 HAVE to be closers with your top closers getting about 80 innings a piece

3SP * 210 = 630
2RP * 80 = 160
1250 - 630 - 160 = 460 innings left

460/3 = 153.33 innings a piece

Which equates to two good starters and one more closer if you want to eat up all of your innings (which typically you do)

So in drafting for you Id go after 2 stud pitchers, 2 above average pitchers (burelhe, radke, garcia types), two good closers, and depending on how that k/9 stat works then either 1 great MR (tom gordon) or another decent closer

the previous post assumes you pitch every pitcher every day. On a day when Bonderman is going against the Royals I have him pitch. And if Clement is giong against the Yankees he sits. A pitcher like John Thomson will do wonders for me at home against Wash. Milw. Pitts. ect. but he will sit against the Cards.l
