St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Reggie Sanders is scheduled to undergo surgery for appendicitis on Thursday evening.
Sanders reported to practice on Thursday morning and complained of stomach pains. He was evaluated by the team's medical staff and diagnosed with acute appendicitis. His return will be determined after the surgery is complete.
Sanders hit .260 with 22 homers, 67 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 135 games last season, which was his first with the Cardinals. In eight spring training games this year, Sanders is only 4-for-18 for a .222 batting average.
