Port St. Lucie, FL (Sports Network) - The New York Mets released versatile infielder Joe McEwing on Thursday.
McEwing, who could play just about every position on the field, appeared in 75 games for the Mets last season and batted .254 with a home run and 16 RBI. He also had three doubles and a triple.
The 32-year-old McEwing had been with the Mets since March of 2000 when he was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals for reliever Jesse Orosco.
For his career the Bristol, PA native is a .253 hitter with 24 homers and 152 RBI in seven seasons.
