Pitching Woes, Advice Please (Wood,Miller,Hernandez,Benson)

Postby ugh-ly » Mon May 05, 2003 2:37 am

I am in a standard 5x5 Roto. My pitching is sucking and that is an understatement. Its still early so I am hoping for some insight on free agent pickups. I addressed part of my reliever problems with a trade. I got (Percival and Koskie) for (Rolen and Looper). Percival better pick it up. We change lineups only once a week on Sundays.

ERA, WHIP last. K's are middle. Wins like lower middle (5W). SVs (3, 2nd last -- bad closer market huh?)

My pitchers are
Kerry Wood (worried with his high WHIP and high pitch counts)
Runelyvs Hernandez (young and can be undone)
Kris Benson (dropping and Kip Wells may be better, no Giles)
Wade Miller (the 10,000$ question: when, if ever?)
Joe Mays (temporary, plays tampa this week)

Troy Percival (upside? will the angels come back?)
Mike Dejean (hopefully 20+ saves, but is it enough)
Brandon Lyon (Person coming back though)

Starting Pitchers I am looking at are:
Johan Santana (Reed is day to day)
Adam Eaton (its San Diego though)
Miguel Asencio (high pitch count but encouraging performance)
Jesse Foppert (all hype?)
Jeremy Affeldt (hype again?)
Ted Lilly (stable but will he give me ERA and K's)
C. C. Sabathia (unsure, so unsure...)

Closers are:
Scott Stewart (he's been pitching well, and biddle may be out)
David Riske (his name says it all but Baez is struggling)

Now I would drop Mays for Santana in an instant. But not sure he's starting. For the next week, who should pick and drop if any? I've taken way too many risks so I am benching Benson and Miller.

Wood is pitching against Morris @ Wrigley. Should I bench?
Hernandez will be in Baltimore and Mays in Tampa.

I am losing patience with Benson. Should I drop? and what is up with Miller. He was key in my draft.

Anyone else I should consider? I am already kicking myself for not picking up Myers. Peavy, Day, and Meche are gone.

Any advice would be appreciated. My hitting is fine. I may trade Vidro or Durham later. But if I don't have to give up anyone I don't want to. What are the long term prospects? Should I be patient with Benson and Miller. Will Wood and Hernandez break down? Will Lyon keep his job?

Miller will come around and I think Lyon will keep his job even with Person joining the staff. I don't know about Benson, Hernandez, and Wood. Wood might be good trade bait depending on what people in your league need.
Yes doctor, I am sick.

Yes doctor, an army is forming.
Yes doctor, there will be a war.
Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
