Mariano Rivera will be out at least a few days with mild bursitis in his right elbow. Another pitcher whose spring started late ''now'' comes down with an injury. ''It's not a major concern,'' manager Joe Torre said. ''He's shut down tonight. He will probably pitch by the end of the week.'' It looks like Torre will have to be a little more careful with Rivera after last year's heavy workload. Some DL time during the season is a possibility.
There goes my 'see if 3 MR [Rincon, Gordon and Gonzalez were what I ended up with...] do, in fact, help the pitching #s' experiment though...now I've got 2 MR and an MR/ closer hybrid!

Rivera is only projected to be out until this Friday. You're counting chickens way before they've hatched

well, yeah, but there's not too much else to do w/ the guys on the team(s) until Opening day!! I also place little credence in any reports, given that the ones I'm most familiar with are the Cubs!!
Could the bursitis progress to worse than "mild"? Because this is the same thign Jason Schmidt had a couple years ago and required surgery in the offseason. He had a pretty good year pitching through it, though he might have missed a couple starts to rest. Elbow problems are never nothing to worry about with pitchers as we've seen with Prior.
