ROCKIES RF...Mohr, or Hawpe???

Postby Purple Haze » Tue Mar 15, 2005 2:20 am

Who will win the Rockies RF job, and who will be the better pick as a keeper?

Thanks in advance... ;-D

Hawpe has more upside but Mohr is the better defender. I would imagine that they will battle each other for playing time all season.

Hawpe's the lefty, correct? If they decide to platoon, which I heard was a possibility, he'd get the most time.

Hawpe is the lefty, so as long as he doesn't struggle out of the gate, he should get the majority of the PT. But Mohr can sub for Holliday as well, so I think he's a decent sleeper in deep leagues as both Hawpe and Holliday are unproven.

Hawpe may get most of the playing time if the two platoon, but I think Mohr will start outright, unless he fails to hit at Coors (fat chance). THen he will prob be trade bait in july for whoever needs an OF.

Mohr will be subbing and playing all three outfield positions this year and will get at least 500 abs, IMO. Clint Hurdle loves the guy. He's a hard-nosed tough player who goes all out every day. Hurdle will find a way to get him in the lineup all season, which makes him a great sleeper this year.

I like Hawpe's upside but I think he'll start the season in AAA.

Not sure, but they are both hitting well in spring training. Obviously the stats are from an extremely small sample, but so far neither is losing the job with his bat:

Mohr in 21 AB: .381 BA; .476 SLG
Hawpe in 18 AB: .333 BA; .444 SLG

Hawpe hit 32 HR's in 92 games in AAA.. I say Hawpe is the starter and Mohr hits the bench
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment
