SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Mark Prior said he has no doubts he'll be ready for the regular season for the Chicago Cubs.
"Obviously, a lot of it depends on how I progress," Prior said Monday at HoHoKam Park. "I'm very optimistic and not worried about it as of right now."

Prior has pitched in one Cactus League game on March 10, and went three innings. After the game, he said he felt fine. But while doing his postgame exercises, he felt some discomfort in his right elbow. An MRI taken three days later showed inflammation.

On Sunday, Prior threw off the mound for the first time since that game and still has some mild discomfort in his elbow. But the right-hander can deal with it.

"It's nothing I can't work through now," he said. "It feels for the most part pretty good. My arm feels good, my arm strength is there. I didn't lose anything. That's the difference between this year and last year. Last year, I wasn't even in shape. That's the one positive thing."

Sounds like he is getting better ;-D

But he seems to have more aches and pains than most pitchers, and between the Cubs and Dusty Baker, neither is well known for handling pitchers properly. If you haven't drafted already, take a powder on the guy and let him be someone elses headache. A 2nd round pick for a guy who gets 15-20 starts a season is a waste.

That collision with Giles was massive. I have yet to see him be the same on the mound since. I've probably watched every game Prior has pitched for the last 2 years.

Look - this is normal preseason bang-up junk on getting the arm ready for a 7 inning (average) game. He's going to be fine and only a fool would drop him off his radar and a dingleberry would lower him anywhere past a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

My advise - keep him high and sell him off for a bundle mid season.

I'll follow you to the holly land too ;-D

Holly was my first dog's name and is also nice christmas time decorum, but ouch! prickly
