I may be alone here, but I think 3B is deep this year.

i don't think you're alone in that at all-freeing up a 3 or 4th rd pick will probably allow you to get a Lidge/Gagne caliber closer, and just get Aram/your fave 5th 3rd baseman in 5 if you're that worried about it.

This is what you do. Get Ichiro in the first round and then Schmidt or Sheets on the come back.

If Ichiro is off the board in the first take Beltre and the best pitcher on the come back and target Pierre for the third round.

I agree, but there is no way you will get Pierre in the third round of a 16 team league.

I believe Chavez is 40th on the ESPN Live Draft averages. Not to say that he is the 40th ranked player in my opinion, that's just where he is typically getting drafted at. In a 16 team league with the #11 pick, which gives you (11, 22, 33, 44 etc...). I wouldn't attempt to take Chavez until the 3rd round if you really have your heart set on him. By drafting him in the 2nd round you are passing up too many good players and not getting a good value for your pick.

If it is a typical snake draft I think you have pick 11, 22, 43, 54. Either way I would gamble and wait until 43 for Chavez. As someone else said, 3B is soooo deep this year.

edit - just looked at my adp sheet and I see Chavez at 30. If you really want him you have to pick in the second round. Either way I would wait.
