9th pick in 10 team league

Postby mcmahojl » Sun Mar 13, 2005 10:16 pm

I have the ninth pick in a ten person league. I am hoping to pick up Helton and then Ichiro on the swing around. Then, with the 29th and 32nd picks, I want to get my pitcher, and a 3b.

What do you think of the strategy, and who do you think I could snag with those 29 and 32 picks? Peavy and Chavez?

First of all, I wouldn't be taking Ichiro that early when Manny, Crawford, or Abreu could be there.

But with these two guys, I will have OBP and Avg locked up each week. I am sure that I can get HR from a 3b later on. Also, Ichiro will give me a good start on SB's also.

There's no way you'll get Helton with the 9th pick...so your plan is flawed from the start

I agree Abreu and Manny would be better picks but I would definitely take Ichiro ahead of Crawford.

If you do go that way, getting both Ichiro and Helton, allows you the luxury of being able to pick up power hitters, who don't hit for a great average. These guys can be had in the late rounds.

With those categories I wouldn't even consider Ichiro with that pick. I'd take two big sluggers or RJ/Santana if they fall to you.

Also, making plans like this could kill your draft...at the start, take the best availible guys and then start thinking about positions and categories...your first couple picks will define your team...don't try to do it the other way, otherwise you'll miss out on some of the best players...

I was thinking that the draft would go something like this:

1-5)Pulojs, Guerrero, Arod, Beltran, Tejada

6-8)RJohnson, Bonds, Abreu

Leaving me Helton, Santana, etc.

Yeah, Santana will be gone by then.
