With a RP max of 140, is Dotel still the pick over Hoffman?

I know there was a discussion on who was the pick between Dotel and Hoffman and the consenus seemed to be that Dotel was the guy, but in a league where the RP appearance limit is 140, is Dotel still the pick? It seems the As use him in more non-save situations, thefore wasting opps.

I just traded Hoffman for Dotel, but may have jumped the gun. Thoughts?

BTW this is a points league, NOT 5 X 5 Roto.

Depends on the point system used, but I like Hoffman over Dotel under normal 5x5 Roto circumstances.

I doubt the A's will use Dotel in non-save situations this year just because they have an awesome bullpen. Why would Dotel pitch more than 2 innings when they have Calero, Cruz, and Street.

I think you made the right choice. I don't think the A's will use him in non save situations, do you have evidence to the contrary?

Dotel's K's make him the favorite over Hoffman, IMO.

I don't have any concrete evidence, but he pitched 85 innings last year, while only recording 36 saves. I know Hoffman was hurt for a period, but he pitched around 50 innings, and got about 40 saves. I know half of those innings for Dotel were in Houston.

The key with our scoring system is to get the most bang for your buck each appearance...I like Dotel more, but after reviewing their stats a little more closely I am becoming worried I made a mistake.

Does anyone have any in depth info on if the As will use Dotel in NON save situations, as that wastes an appearence for my RPs, with no chance of getting the save and the big points. I like Dotel to lower his homerun rate, his ERA, and his whip from last year, while his K rate to stay the same, its just those wasted appearences that worry me.

Don't worry. The A's have a great relief staff. It's so good that fireballer Houston Street doesn't even have a solidified role in the bullpen. Dotel won't be pitching too many 8th innings, so don't worry so much. I think you made the right move.
