Dynasty team, too many risks? could use some advice. thanks

Imin an 18 team dynasty league
23 draft positions I currently have 1 roster spot left.

18 team H2H-6x6-Auction Keeper league

For hitters- OBP, SLG, Runs, RBI, HR, SB

For Pitchers- Wins, ERA, WHIP, K's, Saves, Holds

Franchises are constructed of 3 separate rosters-
Active Rosters- 23 Players-
Protected Players- 5 players (See Protected Players Thread)
Minor League Roster- unlimited- (See Minor League Thread)

Positions- C, 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, RF, CF, LF, Util, P, P, P, P, P, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL

$260 salary cap, I have $281 total salary cap due to trade this year and next year I will have $278.

After the draft we have 5 protected list spots. we can fill them or not.
We also have a prospect draft. my draft pick numbrs are:
9, 48, 50, 59, 86, 92 (outcome from trades and such)

My current roster is:

This is my first Dynasty league and it has been rough.
We have to give:
3 guys 4 y contracts
6 guys 3 y contracts
the rest 1 and 2 year contracts (no limit)

Did I take way too many risks with my pitchers and young players?
Any info or advice can you give me?
Do you think a team like this can hold up or do I look like an eternal bottom feeder?

also contract you add $1 each additional year.
so example
year 1 $6 contract year 2 is $7, year 3 is is $8 year 4 is $9

For an 18 team league it is not too bad. Like the offense. Not thrilled with your pitching. Would not have spent $13 on Piazza for 1b though. Should have let someone else who needed a C spend the money and spent that $13 on a solid 1b.

I definitely think you overdid the young SPs. Kazmir at $8 was fine, but Gavin Floyd at $10 and Blanton at $8 and Haren at $8? Too many propects for too much money. They may work out, but if they do not, you sort of blew over 10% of your budget on rookies. Too much risk imo, but that is me.

I also would not have spent so much on Gagne and think that in an 18 team league, you would have been better served spendng that type of money on a rock solid, elite SP instead. More value is gained from $4 Aquino types for the 1 category saves.

As to holding up...your offense should keep you in the hunt in that deep a league, and it will come down to what if anything you get out of your staff beyond Pedro and Gagne. With one pick left I would just look for value.

Thanks for the insight.

My thought process so far with this draft has been to pick up some young players and hope that one fo them becomes a stud where $8 will be a killer bargain. and hope the rest become good down the middle pitchers who $8 in a couple of years will be a bargain.

So basicly I realize they are kind of like lottery tickets, hopefully they will pay-off.

Ok Ponson and Ru Ortiz they are kind of dangerous I admit that but Ponson lost 35 pounds I hope that will make a difference.

I picked up guys like Piazza and Green pretty much as money dumps.
I got them for the sole purpose of 1 year contracts. dump them next year. Ill have there money back for the $1 contract extensions on th eplayers I am keeping and hopefully I can being up a monior leaguer or a decent draft pick next year to replace them.

We will see.
