Tom Verducci says Blue Jays are going to new League

On a New York radio show he was asked which rookies impress him. He did say that he hasn't seen many so far but did give major props to Brandon League and says his stuff is so nasty that he will be closing in May.

Heh, interesting title, but thanks for the tip. Hadn't yet heard of this guy in the intense reading I've been doing the past few days. Very small major league sample to work on, but the stats he put up in 4 innings are pretty impressive. Anyone have an idea how much setup duty he's expected to get? Is he worth taking a late flier on to get in some quality innings? I'm in a points league with an IP cap of 1300, so top notch middle relief/ setup guys are more value than mediocre starters, especially if he really has a shot at closing sometime this year.

Verducci was a temporary member of the Blue Jays recently (actually played in games and whatnot).


Not to say that League won't be good....But no matter what team Verducci did that with, he certainly would've been impressed by at least one youngster.

In the SI article Verducci ALSO gushes quite a bit about Batista, offering the opinion that he has too many pitches and gets casual with them. He spent 5 days in LF for the Jays and wrote a nice article on it but I would question whether there's much fantasy value as pretty much everyone is written of in glowing terms and there is not a lot of assessement of the Jays' grim prospects in the AL East nor any kind of projections for the players who he meets.
