A friend of mine butchered up his cats and points breakdown in his points league and asked for my help. Since I don't usually play points leagues, I am turning to the Cafe. Can someone please post the cats and points breakdowns for the leagues that they have successfully run?? I would especially appreciate those leagues with a nice track record. ;-D

Here are the current breakdowns:

R (3), H (1), HR (4), RBI (2), SB (2), BB (1), K (-3)
IP (1), W (4), SV (4), H (-.5), ER (-1), K (3), HLD (2)

The 1st bad thing that jumps out at me is equal points for saves and wins. :-?

Wow. That is brutal scoring for hitting.
3 pts for a run is way too much; -3 for a K is way too much. A guy like Adam Dunn could seriously end up with 0 points for the season.

By giving only 4 points for a win it really lends itself to be a hitter-heavy league. The scoring system for my league, which we took years to get is as follows, feel free to take. Everyone is very happy with it. We also add points for defense (not much .15 for an assist, that kind of thing) but it helps choose between a good middle rounder who's a good defender and a middle rounder who isn't.

Batting; R 1, H 1, SB 1, CS 1, HR 4 BB 1, 2b 2, 3b 3, K-1 then some defensive, CAtchers CS: +2

Pitching: IP 1, W 5 (more on this later), L-4, K +1, QS 4, BB -1. SV +3, ER -1.

We used to have more points for a win but decided this was better while adding a QS. Therefore, if a pitcher throws poorly but wins he does not get as many points as a player who throws well but may get a no decision.

There may be more to our system, this is off the top of my head. PM me if you want me to send you everything.

Hope this helps!

Here is the scoring my league has used for the past 4 seasons:

Hit by pitch(1)

Earned run(-1)

It has a few problems- saves should be less or maybe a cat for blown saves. Also, I would prefer HRs at 4 instead of 5. And Ks count too much against batters.

So far I haven't been able to convince the league to make these adjustments. At least I got IBB(1) tossed out- the guy who started the league had Bonds. Convenient. Anyway, its a pretty good system, but could use a few tweaks. Hope this helps.

We've run this point league for 5 years now, and every year we find something to switch. This year we switched saves to 4 points and holds to 3, to put more emphasis on middle relievers. This has worked very well, or at least well enough to keep 12 of us happy every year.

R (1), H (1), 2B (1), 3B (2), HR (3), RBI (1), SB (3), CS (-1), BB (1), K (-1), IP (3), W (10), L (-5), CG (10), SHO (5), SV (4), H (-1), ER (-1), BB (-1), K (1), HLD (3)
