escobar or colon?

Colon is better by a smidge. He had about the worst first half last year that you can...it won't be as bad this year. look for good things from him.

I have both in my money league and a different keeper league, and I'm seeing Escobar as a safer pick and Colon as a more risk, more reward pick to get his ERA back under 5. It's close, but I think I'd go Colon.

I would easliy take Escobar.

Colon had an ERA of over 5 last year. I don't care how many wins. Any guy with an ERA over 5 is a Roto Nightmare.

Escobar has been imporving, he will have better K's, Better Ratios.

Yea I'd take Escobar over Colon by a wide margin. Around 200k's can't be wrong.

This is how I see it too.

Some numbers:
Colon
bb/9: 3.0 k/9: 6.7 hr/9: 1.3

Escobar:
bb/9: 3.3 k/9: 8.2 hr/9: 0.9

bb/9 is pretty equal, but Escobar far exceeds Colon in the other important cats.

In my overall list Colon is 198, and Escobar is 116, but I play with K/bb ratio so it might throw off comparisons.

I'd also go for Escobar .... that K rate is a very good thing.

I would never, ever, take a guy with an ERA over 5, unless it was a 20-man league and the rest of his stats were damned good. The ERA and k's are so much better on Escobar, I can't see the win difference last year as having been anything other than luck.

I agree. I see people snatching up Matt Clement much earlier than Escobar. And Escobar may turn out to have the better year. While he's not going to be in Cy Young contention, I think that he will have a very good fantasy year.

My league stresses wins, innings and Ks are nice too, but wins are worth the most. I like Colon here strictly on that point. Colon was horrid in the beginning of '04, but came on nicely in the second half. I see that whole team 'churning' nicely... Colon could have 19 wins.

So you like Colon for wins more than Escobar because of Colons whole team 'churning' nicely? Last I checked Escobar and Colon are on the same team. With Escobar very likely to have better stats in every way than Colon you think for some random reason Vlad anc co. will only hit on the days Colon is pitching and not with Escobar on the mound? ok

Colon might have 19 wins if he enters 19 pie eating contests... no way he approaches that many playing baseball. Go for Escobar and get superior stats in every category other than WHIP which they'll be close in.
