I disagree, Lidge has been the image of health since his emergence as an elite RP. He did have a history of am troubles in the minors and during his inital stint in the majors. But being a closer is much easier on your arm, just ask Smoltz. If anybody gets hurt amongst the elite closerS I say it's Gagne (he has already shown signs of ware currently nursing an ailment. I think Lidge will be fairly injury-free.

Lidge has had a huge workload both in the regular season and playoffs, and is the only pitcher worth his salt in Houston. He'll be over-worked again... and keep in mind his K/BB more than doubled from 2003 to 2004. He's a great pitcher, but his value has nowhere to go but south.

Okay, so u wanna talk about closers that are going to be prone to value going south, how bout Rivera the 35 year old, aforementioned Gagne (who is currently hurt), Percival has a unfixable hip injury similar to Albert Belle so he is constantly in pain, Waggs didn't finish laast year, Nathan who is closing for the 2nd year and people are calling him one of the best, come one (highest trade value for him is now), Hoffman cronicly injury-prone, Looper very unreliable in Fla, can he stay in the same mold as last year in NY?
Nathan has been one of the best RP in baseball for 2 years and hasn't been overworked. Before last season I compared him to Gagne and was laughed at. Nobody's laughing anymore. He also has a great setup man. Whole different situation than Lidge. I don't see the risk assopciated with Nathan.

Well, Lidge has been the better pitcher all around for the last 2 years compared to Nathan. I do agree that Lidge has been overworked, especially when he was MR. His numbers are dominating plus Tropicana is a launching pad. I think Lidge is okay and I think he has a better mantality than Nathan. Plus, Minn. wants Crain closing in the future. I think once Nathan blows a couple it will weigh on his mind
No, I disagree that he'll wear down, just beacause dosen't mean he'll fall apart (ie Livan Hernandez), Lidge won't and Lidge has better stuff than Nathan, just ask the 157 guys he struck out last year.

Smoltz repeatedly said last year that being a starting pitcher puts less strain on his elbow than being a RP who some times has to go out there 2 or 3 days in a row, which is why he was asking to move back to being a SP. So I can't personally ask Smoltz, but I can assume what his answer would be.
