PT and the Mariners OF (Reed)

Postby Steve-o » Thu Mar 10, 2005 2:27 pm

I have been drafting Jeremy Reed late in drafts because I think he will help with SB and can hit for a decent average. I am now starting to get a little concerned about his PT. Does anyone know if they plan to start him in center?

Interesting point in researching this question. 3 days ago sportsline didn't have him in the lineup, now they have him batting second.

From what I've gathered he will start in CF, Winn in LF, and Ibanez will DH and occasionally play 1B.

Apparantly Reed is the starting CF and is batting 2nd between Ichiro and Beltre.

Winn is the 3rd OF, and Ibanez the DH.

I truely cannot imagine that they would bat him second over Winn.

The Mariners plan to give Jeremy Reed plenty of playing time this spring so they can determine if he's ready to be their center fielder.
Reed is one of the best outfield prospects in baseball and would make a very nice #2 hitter behind Ichiro in the Seattle lineup. ''He's going to be a good one,'' said Seattle bench coach Ron Hassey. ''He's a real hard worker who wants to improve.'' If Reed makes the team out of spring training, he'll be one of the leading Rookie of the Year candidates.

from rototimes:
Batting Order
Pos. Player
1 Ichiro Suzuki
2 Jeremy Reed
3 Adrian Beltre
4 Richie Sexson
5 Bret Boone
6 Raul Ibanez
7 Randy Winn
8 Miguel Olivo
9 Pokey Reese

everything i've seen projects reed as the number 2 hitter, and he can put up some pretty good numbers from there.

yeah everything up here in seattle says its Reeds job to lose (both CF and the 2 spot). He is a great pick up especially batting between Ichiro and beltre/Sexson!!!!

I am not saying that they are not going to hit himlead-off, I just think it seems pretty stupid when you have a guy like Winn who has at least proven he's competent.
