I think Schmidt's a pretty good choice for one of those picks. The way I see it this year, there are five pitchers that I think are really the top pitchers in baseball: Santana, RJ, Schmidt, Prior, and Sheets. After that, there are plenty of solid guys who I'd have no problem having as my ace - Pedro could possibly be considered in that top tier as well, but I'm a little nervous about his shoulder - but I think it's a fairly significant drop-off after those 5 (or 6) pitchers. Unless you think one of those guys will make it back to you at the end of the third round, I'd go ahead and grab one now.
Of course, that's just my opinion. If you have your SP tiers set differently and would have no problem taking a guy like Zambrano, Peavy, or Oswalt as your ace, then it probably makes more sense to grab two hitters. Helton's always a solid choice, and I'd probably take him if he's still there. If you don't think an elite SP will make it back to you in the third round, I'd grab one of those with the other pick, but if you don't mind waiting, I'd probably take Crawford after Helton. Ichiro would be fine also, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him hit somewhere around .320 and steal only about 25 bases since he's actually got decent hitters behind him, compared to Crawford's .300 and 60 steals...plus, Crawford should have a bit more power. Of course, Ichiro could hit .350 and steal 35 and end up more valuable than Crawford, so it all depends what you're expecting.
well, i personally like to take an outfielder as my 1st pick because you have to fill 3 OF spots and a lot of the better hitters are outfielders. if you're set on helton, you might want to consider grabbing ramirez as number 13 if he's still available, which he very well might be. on the other hand, since you have the last pick in the 3rd round, you may get screwed out of a top quality starter... so i'd say to go with helton and schmidt (or ramirez and scmidt).
you can't live the dream, if you don't play the game

In that order
I assume this is your list post Top 5 (which would include Tejada I'm guessing) ? I like it, but would include Ichiro and maybe even Sheff or Rolen somewhere in there...
